E Is For Eucalyptus.

This is the Eucalyptus caesia, or a Silver Princess, that lives in my front yard. It has beautiful pink flowers, but unfortunately it’s not flowering at the moment. Luckily it’s not just the flowers that are beautiful, the whole tree is lovely to look at.

I love the contrast between the old and the young leaves, and how the bark flakes off and curls up. It reminds me of working in the bush, and of living in the bush. I hope I can live amongst the trees again soon, not with just a lone tree in the front yard.

It’s meant to be in Western Australia – it didn’t last long when I tried to grow it in clayey soil. Victorians need to live on sandy soil, or build a special bed for it. The leaves make a nice dye, too.

these are beautiful photographs 🙂 and I love eucalyptus. I had one at my old house, but I clearly didn’t know how to take care of it…poor little eucalyptus tree.

Haha, that’s the good thing about living in Australia I suppose! It’s meant to be here, so I don’t look after it at all, except to cut it back from the power lines once a year!
