Thank You, Mum.

Dear Mum,

Thank you for teaching me:

  • How to sew.
  • How to cast on and off knitting. (Thank you Nana for teaching me the rest.)
  • How to sharpen a pencil with a craft knife.
  • How to bake.
  • How to grease and line a baking tray.
  • How to cut up a banana against my thumb.
  • How to change a light bulb.
  • How to use a hammer and a screwdriver and an electric drill.
  • How to program a VCR.
  • How to correctly hold a chook. (Or a chicken, for non-Australians.)
  • How to light a successful fire.
  • That it’s ok to be different.
  • That it’s ok not to have a ‘regular’ job.
  • That it’s ok to ask for help when I need it.
  • To be kind to spiders, and every other creature.
  • To be patient with children, and adults who act like children.
  • To respect myself.
  • To live a life of peace, love and empathy.
